3Would not output 2.1 A until USB pins 2 & 3 were shorted  Jan 13, 2012 By Hoonce
I was initially disappointed with this adapter. It would only charge my phone (HTC Incredible) with around 500-700 mA, charging at the same rate as plugging a micro USB cable into a USB port on a computer. This seems to be the case for all USB chargers that I have come across as I have had the same issue with another Scosche and a Griffin USB car adapters. Since this item advertised 2.1 A output I thought I would take a chance on it, and if I had to I would modify it.

Like the other Scosche adapter that I own I cracked it open and shorted the number 2 & 3 USB pin with solder. After this was done the charger output the full 2.1 A to my phone.

Similar images, from other products, showing the USB pins that need to be shorted can be found in the links below.

Now that it outputs the advertised value I am happy with my purchase. However, you should not have to modify a product (I'm sure voiding any warranty in the process) to get the advertised results.

1Charges fast when it works  Jan 02, 2012 By T. Grady
The PowerPlug is a great idea, unfortunately mine doesn't work more often than it does. When it first got it, it would charge correctly 1/2 the time. Now, it never charges correctly. It will turn on and off repeatedly and actually drain the battery more than charge it. I guess I'll have to see if the warranty is any good.

5Nice product  Aug 05, 2011 By Graham W "Graham W."
Arrived very quickly. Nice, low profile adapter that fits snugly into the cigarette lighter. Works great charging an iPad 2.

2Holy radio interference batman!  Feb 24, 2012 By Adam
Tried to use this in my 2006 Mazda 3, and the RF it puts out is annoying to say the least. The thing pretty much jammed both AM/FM radio transmissions reducing radio quality in half. Very annoying.

4Charger works great, but it makes some devices think it's a computer  Jan 31, 2012 By Photoguy
I used this to charge an iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. Each one charged great. The only problem is that when I tried to charge my Garmin nuvi 350 GPS, the Garmin thought the charger was a computer, so it showed the connection screen rather than just a charging icon. I would imagine it wouldn't have been any harder for Scosche to make the charger without this problem.
