 Durable yet relatively slim and attractive case. Jan 24, 2012

Having only seen the Defender case in person, I was afraid that the Commuter would also be too large. But that is not the "case". The commuter feels almost identical in size to the terrible silicone case I got from Verizon when I purchased my phone. The power/volume buttons work well, though they lack the "click" of a caseless phone. The fit of the case is perfect. There are no gaps anywhere. Overall it makes the phone feel a bit more solid, to me it feels better to hold.
On the downside, if you were buying the case because it also included a screen protector - you will be sad. Like other reviewers mentioned, the protector only covers the visible screen when on, and not the entire face. I did not know it was coming with a protector and already had one installed - so this part is not an issue for me.
Overall it's a great case that compromises between the ultra-durable-but-no-way-will-it-fit-in-my-pocket Defender case, and any other tpu/silicone only case. It looks great and will protect great.

I previously had a pretty cheap soft case for my Galaxy Nexus, but it wasn't particularly confidence inspiring and gave the phone a generic, subdued look. So I upgraded to the Otterbox Commuter series case, and so far I'm pretty pleased. For those who don't know, this is a two-part case. There is a soft silicone sleeve that the phone slips into, and then a hard shell clamps down over that to hold everything in place.
It fits the phone snugly and truly doesn't add a whole lot of bulk to the phone. It's a little larger than my previous case, but not egregiously so. I actually like the way the Otterbox case fits in my hand better anyway. It feels sturdy and definitely seems like it will do a decent job protecting the phone if it slips out of my hand. Also, I wouldn't call the case stylish, but it looks pretty good. There's a textured portion on the back that looks nice. One other nice thing about this case is that even though the outer shell is hard plastic, the soft inner case dampens out the phone vibrate so it doesn't vibrate obnoxiously loud when the phone is sitting on a hard surface. I can hardly even hear the phone vibrate now. Awesome.
Cons... as everyone else notes, it's pretty unfathomable that the included screen protector doesn't cover all the glass. Someone dropped the ball on that one. Not a deal breaker though, just buy a full size screen protector along with the case.
Also... the soft silicone pieces of the case will grab every bit of lint out of your pockets. At this point it's simple to wipe it down, but I hope it doesn't end up looking crappy after a while.
Update... despite what a couple other reviewers have said, this case doesn't fit very well if you buy the extended battery. You can make it "fit" but it's clearly not right and it makes me worry about how much pressure the case is putting on the back cover + battery. I might try and sand down the inside of the case a little. It's not far off but it's enough to make a difference.

Almost perfect... Feb 08, 2012

I received this new case yesterday after a week of nail biting time when I was using my NEW Galaxy Nexus(GN) without any case on it. The GN is really thin and have smooth plastic surfaces so in these Jan/Feb Wintery dry weather I was NOT ready to see it shatter across the pavement if it slips out of my hand. Que in Otterbox Commuter Series Hybrid case! I had one of these before for the Nokia E72 and loved it!! It was relatively thin and fitted the Nokia very well. This case for the GN, I am not too sure. It gives great protection BUT it really bilks up the phone - which is kind of large already. I am happy I did not go for the Defender Series :-).
Pros:
- Covers all key ports VERY well
- Keys/buttons are protected and easy to use
- Raised edge of the soft cover protects the screen when you place the phone down screen first
- Hard plastic snap-on makes it easier to get the phone out of your pocket
Cons:
- Bulks up the phone a little more than I would have liked
- Rubber/soft inner cover is a lint magnet - beware - may be reason I will return this. let's see...
- did I mention it bulks it up substantially like the original phone worked out at the muscle gym for 6 months
I'm 4/5 stars happy and I am sure that IF I drop my phone this will be protected - so to that aim - MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!

Overall this is a nice case. Fits very well and offers great protection. Adds some bulk to the phone, but not so much that it's obnoxious. Also, the case comes in two parts: the silicone cover which goes over the phone itself, and the plastic shell that then snaps on over the silicone case. As with all silicone cases, it's a dirt magnet and collects lots of junk when you put it into your pocket.

This is a very nice, solid case. Rubber surrounding the phone with a hard outer case. The case feels really good in my hand as well. The USB port and the earphone jack are proteceted with a rubber flap...to keep dirt, etc. out. This cover fits with the extended battery as well.
